1. About These Terms
These Terms govern your use of services provided by La Barca Auto Service & Smog Check ("La Barca", "we", "our", "us"), located at 2274 Cabrera Ave, San Bernardino, CA 92411. By bringing your vehicle to us, calling/texting us, booking a service, or using our website, you agree to these Terms.
2. Services We Provide
La Barca offers:
- STAR-certified smog inspections (including DMV-directed STAR vehicles).
- VIN verification (in-state, out-of-state, salvage).
- Clean Truck Check (CTC / HD I/M) for diesel and gas vehicles over 14,000 lbs GVWR.
- Premium Registration Service: renewals, transfers, lost titles, replacement plates & stickers, dealer/auction transactions, lien sales, name changes.
- General auto repair: brakes, oil, diagnostics, check-engine, tune-ups.
3. Pricing
Prices are quoted at the shop or by phone before any service begins. State certificate fees (currently $8.25 for smog certificates) are passed through at cost. We do not perform additional billable work without verbal or written authorization from you.
Payment is due at the time of service unless we have an established net-30 arrangement with you (fleet customers only).
4. Smog & CTC Failures
If your vehicle fails an inspection, we will explain why. We can usually diagnose the cause on the spot and provide a written estimate before any repair work begins. Re-tests are free within 30 days of the original inspection if the work was performed at La Barca.
ImportantWe never perform repairs to "force" a passing test. All repairs are real and disclosed in writing. STAR-certified shops are subject to BAR audits and we take that responsibility seriously.
5. We Are NOT The DMV
La Barca is a DMV-authorized partner for many registration services, but we are an independent business — not the California Department of Motor Vehicles. We charge a service fee for handling registration paperwork on your behalf in addition to the state fees themselves. You always have the option to handle DMV paperwork directly with the DMV at no service-fee cost.
6. CARB Compliance
For Clean Truck Check, we file your test results directly with the California Air Resources Board the same day. You are responsible for keeping your CARB account current and providing accurate truck information.
7. Vehicle Drop-Off & Storage
We treat every vehicle on our lot as if it were our own. However, La Barca is not responsible for personal items left in vehicles. Please remove valuables before drop-off.
Vehicles left more than 30 days after completed service may be subject to storage fees and lien-sale procedures under California Civil Code §3068.
8. Right to Refuse Service
We reserve the right to refuse service for any lawful reason, including (but not limited to):
- Vehicles that are unsafe to test or drive.
- Vehicles with tampered emissions equipment.
- Customers who behave abusively toward our staff.
9. Communications
By providing your phone number, you consent to receive service-related calls and texts from La Barca. Reply STOP at any time to opt out of texts. Standard message and data rates may apply.
10. Website Use
Our website at this domain is provided "as-is" for informational purposes. We do our best to keep hours, pricing, and other details accurate, but minor errors may occur. The map, FAQ, and service descriptions on the site are general guidance — please call us for specifics on your situation.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by California law, La Barca's liability for any service is limited to the cost of that service. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental damages. Nothing in these Terms limits any non-waivable rights you have under California consumer law (including the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the California Automotive Repair Act).
12. Disputes
Any dispute that can't be resolved by talking it out at the shop will be handled in San Bernardino County, California. California law governs these Terms.
If you have an unresolved complaint about repair work, you may also contact the California Bureau of Automotive Repair at bar.ca.gov or 1-800-952-5210.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms occasionally. The current version is always posted at this URL with the effective date at the top.
